(GSM) – Galatasaray are eliminated from the Turkish Cup tournament despite a 3-2 win over Antalyaspor in Wednesday’s quarter final action. Trabzonspor beat Istanbul BB to advance.
‘Gala’ knew that they faced a challenge following last week’s 2-1 defeat in the city of Antalya, but had a good start on Wednesday as Elano opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute.
Necati Ates levelled three minutes later however, and although Emre Colak put Galatasaray back in the lead shortly after the break, the hosts knew that conceding another goal would turn the away rule against them.
And the second Antalyaspor goal came six minutes after the hour and it was again Ates to direct the ball past the opposing goalkeeper.
Caner Erkin then scored for 3-2 in the 86th minute but no goals would follow in the thrilling final phase.
In the other quarter final played on Wednesday, Trabzonspor beat Istanbul BB 1-0 following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
The only goal of the match came from Remzi Kacar with five minutes left in the first half.
In the other two quarter finals, scheduled to be played on Thursday, Manizaspor defend a comfortable 4-1 lead at Denizlispor while Fenerbahce visit Bursaspor with a 3-0 advantage in the pocket.
