Turkish giants Galatasaray have accepted defeat in their race to sign out-of-favour Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah.
The 28-year-old Ghana international’s contract with Juventus is running out at the end of the season and Galatasaray hoped they could land him at a cut-price deal in the winter transfer market.
Asamoah himself is keen to leave Turin to kick-start his career after getting pushed on the margins at Bianconeri, but a move to Turkey is no longer on the cards as Galatasaray were forced to withdraw from the chase.
A new set of restrictions that have been put in place in the Turkish Super Lig have limited the number of foreign players per club and Galatasaray have already exceeded their quota.
Director of football with the Turkish powerhouse Cenk Ergun confirmed the claims in a statement for Haberturk.
“We can’t take Asamoah in January, because of the new rule that limits foreign transfers in Turkey,”, he said.
Asamoah made only five Serie A outings this season.
