Galatasaray have completed the signing of defender Fernando Meira from Stuttgart according to a press release on Skysports.com

Meira had been expected to depart the Bundesliga side following the recent arrival of stopper Khalid Boulahrouz from Chelsea and has now penned an initial three-year deal with the Turkish giants.

It was claimed that Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur were monitoring Meira’s situation but the 30 year old Portugal international never received an official offer.

Stuttgart sports director Horst Heldt thanked Meira for his six-and-a-half seasons at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion.

He said: “We thank Fernando Meira for six-and-a-half years in the jersey of VfB and wish him all the best for his future in Turkey.”
