Galatasaray have completed the transfer of Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma, according to Fabrizio Romano, though official confirmation is yet to come from either club.
The agreement between the two clubs was reached on Tuesday, and the attacking midfielder traveled to Turkey on Wednesday morning to undergo a medical ahead of the transfer, which will apparently set a new record in the history of Turkish football. Zaniolo is believed to have signed a contract for five and a half years, with a release clause set at €35 million.
The 23-year-old decided to leave Roma in January, as head coach Jose Mourinho confirmed, and he was of interest to AC Milan and Bournemouth. He preferred the Rossoneri as a potential destination, but no deal was agreed before the transfer window closed in Italy. Therefore, the only possibility for Zaniolo to leave the Stadio Olimpico before the end of the season was to accept a move to a league where the window lasted longer – such as Turkey.
Told Nicolò Zaniolo has just signed as new Galatasaray player. Done deal, sealed also on contract side — valid until June 2027 with €35m release clause. ✅🟡🔴 #Galatasaray
