Villarreal have confirmed on their website that manager Juan Carlos Garrido has been relieved of his duties.
The sacking comes after the club’s elimination on Wednesday from the Copa del Rey at the hands of minnows Mirandes, with Villarreal also battling in 17th position in La Liga.
In a press release, the club thanked Garrido for his efforts, but did not reveal information on his potential replacement.
Only goal difference separates Villarreal from La Liga’s relegation zone, while the club also set a record for worst performance by a Spanish team in the Champions League after losing all six group-stage games.
Garrido had been appointed in February 2010, having previously had three stints with the club’s B side.
