Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has criticised coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s control of the team and will decide his fate on Wednesday.
Inter are in deep trouble after Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at newly promoted Novara, a result which could leave the club eight points off the top of the table after just three games.
Their winless start to the Serie A campaign, coupled with last week’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Turkish side Trabzonspor, sees Gasperini in danger of being sacked after taking the reins in June.
As a visibly unhappy Moratti left the Stadio Silvio Piola, he admitted he is considering dismissing the 53-year-old.
“I did not see the coach have the team in hand,” Moratti told Sky Sport Italia. “I will take the night to decide.”
Gasperini, meanwhile, admitted his side played ‘really badly’, but is convinced he can turn the club’s form around.
“I just focus on my own work,” Gasperini said. “This was a big slap in the face. There are obviously some problems.”
“It is evident we struggle when chasing our opponents, as we have done better when numerous in midfield. I hope the future will be different, but it depends on fitness, enthusiasm and other situations.”
“I put an extra striker on compared to the Roma game, but we had more problems.”
“I gain strength from my work, which has given me a lot of satisfaction for many years. Right now I am in a difficult situation and I have to emerge from it.”
