Portland Timbers are set to complete the signing of Argentine forward Gaston Fernandez from Estudiantes, according to club president Enrique Lombardi.
The MLS side have been in talks with the 30-year-old over the past few days and the club chairman went on to confirm Fernandez would sign for Portland via his Twitter account.
The Argentine becomes third high-profile player to have joined the club of late, following the acquisitions of Mikael Silvestre and Frederic Piquionne.
Gaston Fernandez started his professional career at River Plate and also enjoyed loan spells with Racing Club and Monterrey before joining San Lorenzo in 2007.
Following a two-year spell with Tigres UANL, the experienced forward returned to Argentina to sign for Estudiantes and has since scored 21 goals in 91 league outings.
His new club Portland Timbers enjoyed a great deal of success last season, reaching the MLS semi-finals for the first time in their history.
