Uruguay international midfielder Gaston Ramirez cannot wait to ‘get started’ at the KC Stadium following a deadline day move to Hull City.
Ramirez, 23, joined the Tigers on a season-long loan deal from Southampton on Monday night.
The former Penarol star joined the Saints from Italian Serie A side Bologna for a then club-record fee of £12 million in August 2012, but was dropped in favour of Northern Ireland international Steven Davis last season.
Davis, 29, has kept his starting-place in 2014/15, with Ramirez having done very little to impress new manager Ronald Koeman.
“I’m so happy to be here and I’m eager to get started,” Ramirez told the Tigers’ official website.
“I want to show the Hull City fans what I can do. It was a quick decision to sign here once I knew the club were interested. Many people have told me about this area and what a lovely place it is. Also, I know this team is like a family.
“It can sometimes be difficult to have change in your life, but I believe this will be a good season for Hull City and for me. There are many fantastic players here and the manager made some brilliant signings this summer.
“We must all come together now to get results on the pitch and do our best for the fans. It is all about results. We must work hard during the week to be stronger on matchday.”
Ramirez will join compatriot Abel Hernandez, Hatem Ben Arfa, and Mohamed Diame at Hull, with the quartet having all arrived on deadline day.
Drenthe happy to join Sheffield Wednesday
Reading F.C. midfielder Royston Drenthe is happy to have secured a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday after being relegated to the bench at the start of the 2014/15 campaign.
Upon leaving Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, Drenthe signed for Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz in December 2012.
After scoring three goals, a hat-trick against Mordovia Saransk, in six league appearances, the former Holland youth international left Russia.
He signed a two-year deal –with an option for a third year–with Reading in July 2013, and went on to score two goals in 23 league appearances for the Royals last term.
Having fallen out-of-favour with manager Nigel Adkins at the start of the new season, Drenthe –determined to secure regular first-team football– has opted to join Wednesday. And rightly so.
“I cannot wait to start because I need to be playing football,” Drenthe said.
“Everyone at Reading has been great with me but I am a footballer who needs to be playing games.
“As soon as I was told of the interest from Sheffield Wednesday, my reaction was ‘get me there’ because this is such a great club and one that I think is going places.”
