Gattuso almost joined Bayern; Fiorentina launch assault on Cardozo

Gattuso almost joined Bayern

Veteran midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has revealed that he was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2008.

The 34-year-old left Milan to join Sion last June, but he now admits he could have left the Rossoneri few years ago.

“Bayern and I agreed on 95 percent. Then Berlusconi and Galliani made me realize that Milan were my sporting home,” the 34-year-old said to Sport Bild.

“The impression must have been that I have used Bayern to get more money at Milan. I swear this was not the case!”

Gattuso enjoyed a lot of success at San Siro during the 13 seasons he spent at the club, winning two Serie A titles and two Champions League trophies with the Rossoneri.

After Milan chiefs opted against extending his contract in the summer, the former Italy international signed for Sion on a free transfer.

Gattuso has scored one goal in 14 league appearances for the Swiss club, helping the team climb to 3rd place in the overall standings.

Fiorentina launch assault on Cardozo

Portuguese newspaper Record understands that Fiorentina are readying January bid for Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo.

Viola officials have been eager to add a new centre forward to the squad ever since they missed out on Dimitar Berbatov in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Following an impressive start to the Serie A campaign, the Artemio Franchi outfit are even more determined to sign a partner for Stevan Jovetic and improve team’s chances of finishing the season in Champions League places.

Record claims that Viola have made Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo their number one target.

The Paraguayan has just over a year and a half left on his deal at Estadio da Luz and Benfica are likely to cash in on the player if he refuses to sign a contract extension.

With the likes of Lima, Rodrigo, Nolito and Salvio already in the side, the Eagles should have no problems replacing the experienced forward.

Cardozo’s impressive goalscoring record is the main reason why Fiorentina are so eager to sign him, with the 29-year-old bagging 94 goals in 142 league appearances for the Portuguese giants.

Gouffran hints at Bordeaux exit

Bordeaux forward Yoan Gouffran has admitted that he could soon be leaving Stade Chaban-Delmas.

The 26-year-old has just over six months left on his deal with les Girondins, but it looks as though he is not too keen on extending his stay.

Bordeaux have offered him a contract extension, but the forward reveals he is closer to leaving.

“At the moment, we are in negotiations with the president. I will announce my decision in the coming days,” Gouffran told Radio Monte Carlo.

The former France international believes he is ready for a new challenge, citing English Premier League as his preferred destination.

“I have always said that I want to try the English championship in order to discover something else.”

After struggling at the start of his career at Bordeaux, Gouffran has been in fine form over the last season and a half, scoring 19 goals in 45 Ligue 1 matches.
