Dwight Gayle has turned down the chance to join Championship side Bristol City, according to Talksport.
The Crystal Palace forward has been deemed surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park following the arrivals of Patrick Bamford and Connor Wickham but is keen to remain in the Premier League.
Bristol City, who were promoted to the Championship as League One champions last May, are keen to make an impression on the second tier and are willing to spend big on a new striker.
Manager Steve Cotteril had identified Gayle as his top target, with the striker having scored eighteen goals in fifty-five Palace appearances since signing from Peterborough United two years ago while he spent his youth career with Arsenal.
City began life back in the Championship with a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, and can be backed at a price of 17/10 to bounce back with victory at home to Brentford next time out.
