Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has confirmed his interest in Inter forward Mauro Zarate.
The highly rated forward is currently on loan at Inter from Lazio, but he looks set to return to Olimpico at the end of the season.
Zarate is currently pondering his future and he could leave the Biancocelesti in search of first team football at the end of the season.
Genoa have been mentioned as one of the clubs interested in the Argentine and the Grifone president has now confirmed those reports.
“I’d sign Zarate in a heartbeat for Genoa, even if he preferred to join Inter despite our interest in him,” Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia.
“He hasn’t yet proved he is strong in terms of character, but he’s certainly more worrying as an opponent than Diego Forlan.”
Genoa travel to Giuseppe Meazza to face Inter and Preziosi believes Zarate could cause his side all sorts of problems on Sunday.
“I am very worried by the prospect of facing Zarate. He is a devastating player if used in a certain way out wide.”
The 25-year-old has only been used sparingly this season, but new Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni sees him as an important part of the starting line-up.
Zarate has amassed 15 Serie A appearances this season, but has yet to score a league goal for the Neroazzurri.
