Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin has been identified as the number one target to replace Napoli’s Pepe Reina, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
The experienced Spanish shot stopper will not be extending his stay with partenopei and is believed to have already made arrangements with AC Milan for this summer.
Napoli are actively searching for a long-term solution to their goalkeeping position and Mattia Perin has emerged as their top target according to the Italian press.
The 25-year-old Italian custodian is highly regarded as one of the most talented goalkeepers in Italy and is widely expected to make a step forward in his career which has thus far been troubled by two serious knee injuries.
Fully fit Perin made 28 Serie A appearances this season, conceding as many goals during that time.
Genoa sporting director Giorgio Perinetti is well aware of Napoli’s interest and has invited Partenopei to make their intentions known.
“We have an excellent rapport with Napoli and I don’t know what will happen. Of course, we’d like to keep Perin, but I understand that a player wants to measure himself up against the competition in the Champions League, so we’ll see. We have always negotiated calmly and with the intent of collaboration. One day, Napoli will put their cards on the table and we’ll see what is the opportune course of action.”, he told speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss.
Napoli play host to Genoa on Sunday and are the 2/9 favourites to grab three points that would keep them in the running for the Serie A title.
