Belgian Jupiler League club Gent have completed the signing of striker Luigi Pieroni from French outfit Valenciennes. The 29 year old has signed a two and a half year contract and will stay at Jules Ottenstadion till the summer of 2012.
Liege born Pieroni started his senior career with stints at Standard and RFC before moving to Excelsior Mouscron in 2003. It was at Mouscron that he hit top form, scoring an astonishing 28 goals in 30 league games to finish as the Belgian’s first division’s top scorer that season. It earned him a move with French club Auxerre but unfortunately he could exactly not reproduce his form at Mouscron- scoring at an average of one goal every four games for AJA.
Nantes signed him in 2007 and then loaned him out to Lens and Gent’s domestic rivals Anderlecht. In 2008 he joined Valenciennes.
