German FA: We have full confidence in South Africa concerning security

(GSM) – The German football federation have expressed full confidence in the security arrangements provided by South African World Cup organizers and are assuring fans that they can travel to the tournament without worrying about their safety.

While, expressing full confidence federation president Theo Zwanziger told Wednesday’s edition of the Welt newspaper that the security measures should be examined again in the wake of the deadly attack on the bus carrying the Togo team to the African Cup of Nations in Angola.

However, he added that a similar attack in South Africa is hardly imaginable.

“As far as security is concerned, we have full confidence in the government of South Africa, FIFA and the national organizing committee,” Zwanziger told the newspaper, and urged fans to follow precisely the instructions of the security officials.

“If you follow these, then you are on a relatively safe ground,” he said.

Zwanziger said he would advise authorities to “once again very closely examine the security measures up to date and double-check everything.”

The German federation would also re-examine “what can be improved to give our players, families, staff and the fans the maximum security,” Zwanziger said.
