German midfielder welcomes Benfica interest

Stuttgarter Kickers midfielder Besar Halimi admits he is proud to have been linked with a side like Benfica.

The player’s representative recently revealed the Eagles were eyeing a January move for his client, who has been in excellent form this season.

Halimi has now welcomed interest from Benfica, adding fuel to speculation linking him with a winter switch to Estadio da Luz.

“Having a club like Benfica interested in me is an honour, but now I am focused on succeeding with my team,” Halimi confessed to Kicker magazine.

The youngster is currently playing his football in Germany’s third tier, having failed to make the grade at Bundesliga clubs Nurnberg and Stuttgart.

Halimi, 19, has earned rave reviews for his displays this term, having managed 2 goals and 10 assists in 17 league outings.

His impressive displays clearly did not go unnoticed as Benfica appear keen on his services and looks set to do a deal in January.

Halimi will probably spend some time playing for Benfica B in second division before joining a senior squad at Estadio da Luz.
