Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has urged Raheem Sterling to put pen to paper on a new contract with the club, according to TalkSport.
The 20 year old has two and a half years remaining on his current deal, but has become a target for some of Europe’s heavyweights, with Real Madrid linked with a move to secure his services.
He recently passed one hundred appearances for the club, scoring twice in his one hundred and first game – the 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup, taking his Reds goal tally to seventeen.
He has also picked up thirteen caps for England since making his debut in the 4-2 friendly victory over Sweden in November 2012.
Liverpool dropped into the bottom half of the table last weekend, but they host Arsenal on Sunday afternoon and victory could move them to within two points of their opponents who begin the weekend in sixth place.
