(GSM) – Liverpool have left captain Steven Gerrard out of their squad for their Europa League match away at Utrecht on Thursday night.
The Reds skipper will rest alongside Daniel Agger as star striker Fernando Torres and the rest of the team play the Dutch side with the latter making his first European appearance of the season.
With left-backs Paul Konchesky and Fábio Aurélio both ruled out with injuries, Martin Kelly is likely to be fielded as an emergency stand-in to fill the position.
Meanwhile the now-fit Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt is excited as he is set to face his former club.
“It means a lot to go back,” he told the club’s website.
“They are the club that gave me the opportunity to play professional football and I really enjoyed it.
“I don’t know a lot of players there now. There are just two or three that still play for the team, but I also know a few guys who work at the club so it’ll be nice to go back and see them.”
