Steven Gerrard is set to be offered a new contract at Liverpool, according to the Daily Star.
The Reds’ skipper has faced criticism in some quarters since returning from this summers’ World Cup finals in Brazil where he captained England through a disappointment campaign which saw them exit at the group stages.
Shortly after the tournament, the midfielder announced his retirement from international football after scoring twenty-one goals in one hundred and fourteen appearances.
He scored his first goal of the season with a trademark free-kick in Saturday’s draw with Merseyside rivals Everton, and his manager Brendan Rodgers is certain that the 34 year old can continue delivering at the top level.
Liverpool, who have so far struggled to match the league form that almost saw them crowned champions back in May face Swiss side FC Basel in the Champions League this evening, and they can be backed at 11/10 for the win.
