Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says he plans to reconsider his international future after the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
The 31-year-old could lead England as captain at the Euro 2012 after John Terry was stripped of captaincy by the national team chiefs.
However, Gerrard admits that he could decide to retire from international football after the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
“It’s something I am going to have to sit down and think about after the Euros this summer,” Gerrard told The People.
“I’ve not spoken to anybody about it yet, nor have I made any decision about what I might I do because there are a lot of things to consider.
“I’m just fully focused on doing as well as I can for Liverpool this season and then playing in the Euros for England. After that we will see what happens.”
The veteran midfielder has 89 England caps to his name, and he managed to score 19 goals in the process.
Gerrard has been struggling with numerous injuries over the last two years and he has recently returned from another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The player, who spent his entire career at Anfield, could decide to call it quits on his England career in order to help the Reds continue their uptrend in fortunes.
Gerrard started just six Premier League games this season, scoring two goals in the process, but he has been in scintillating form since returning from his latest injury.
