French champions Lille have confirmed they will speak with Arsenal regarding the potential sale of their striker Gervinho.
The Ivory Coast international scored 15 goals from 35 appearances in Ligue 1 last term to help Lille to the French league and cup double.
With Lille unwilling to sell him to French opposition, it now appears the 24-year-old’s preferred destination is England – with Arsenal and Manchester City reported to be his first choices.
Lille general manager Frederic Paquet told French radio station RMC the club could soon commence talks with the Gunners, but said the forward – who has a year left to run on his contract – would not come cheap.
“He actually wants to leave,” Paquet said.
“He expressed his desire to leave for England so we’ll see what will happen. Gervinho chose to leave for England, so that limits the scope of the situation.”
“We have developed contacts with Arsenal and we will soon discuss with them to see what they want.”
“We will meet soon with Arsenal and see what they offer – but he is a player of value.”
