Ghana mourns Tetteh´s death

One of the most respected football administrators in Ghana and across Africa, Alhaji Sylvester Tetteh, has died.

Tetteh carved a niche for himself as one with an eye for future gems and his football academy, Liberty Professionals, is known to have groomed several Ghanaian and African footballers for Europe.

Among the players that passed through his hands are Chelsea’s Michael Essien, Kwadwo Asamoah of Udinese, Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan, Inter’s Sulley Muntari, Derek Boateng of Dnipro and Leicester City’s John Paintsil.

The president of the continental football governing body Issa Hayatou said the man, who is being buried on Sunday, according to Islamic belief, is leaving a big void in the football circles of Africa.

“It’s a big loss to African football especially grassroots football considering his academies in other African countries,” the Cameroonian said in a statement.

Tetteh owns two academies in Kenya and Togo.

He collapsed while participating in a match for veterans in the central region of Ghana and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The popular football figure in the west African country was once a player and won the Wafu Club Championship with Sekondi Hasaacas in 1982.
