Group G is widely regarded as one of the strongest at the tournament finals, but even though Germany and Portugal are tipped to progress into the knockout stages, Ghana and United States are definitely not without chances.
And it is these two sides that will square off in round one in an attempt to keep the qualifying hopes alive ahead of the matches against the two group favourites. While Team USA have recorded some good results of late, explosive Ghana side appear to be closer to victory having hammered Korea Republic 4-0 in their final warm-up game.
The Black Stars clearly have several very good attackers in their ranks but one Asamoah Gyan clearly stands out of the crowd. The experienced forward has scored four goals in eight World Cup appearances while netting six times in as many qualifiers in the previous campaign. And with Ladbrokes having enhanced the odds on Gyan to score the first goal from 11/2 to 6/1, backing the Al Ain striker to open the scoring seems like the right thing to do.
