Ghana may be regarded as favourites to win their opening fixture against the United States, but Jurgen Klinsmann’s side have reason for optimism as well. The three straight triumphs in warm-up matches are enough to suggest USA might be able to defy the odds at the tournament finals.
And if they want to have any chance of progressing from Group G, United States need to try and defeat Ghana on Monday night, before they face very difficult matches against star-studded Germany and Portugal sides.
Since the Black Stars do not exactly boast a rock-solid defence, USA attackers should get enough opportunities to score, with Clint Dempsey looking the best bet to register a goal or two. The former Tottenham striker bagged 8 goals in 14 qualifiers before netting eight times in nine games for Seattle, so he definitely offers a good value for money at odds of 11/4 offered on Dempsey to score anytime.
