Marseille star Andre-Pierre Gignac has put an end to speculations linking him with a move away from Stade Velodrome by admitting that he was ready to sign a new contract.
With his current deal due to expire at the end of the season and the club in a difficult financial situation, the France international was widely tipped to be sold in the winter transfer window.
Gignac himself has never suggested that he wants to quit Stade Velodrome and following the team’s brilliant start to the season, he has made it clear that he has no plans to leave.
“I am ready to discuss the contract renewal, let’s see,” the striker told France Bleu Provence earlier today. “I want to continue writing my story here.”
Gignac’s impressive form has been one of the main reasons behind Marseille’s outstanding start to the league campaign, with the 28-year-old bagging 8 goals in as many Ligue 1 matches.
France boss Didier Deschamps in turn had no choice but to call Gignac for the friendlies against Portugal and Armenia, thus ending the striker’s year-long exile from the national team.
