(GSM) – Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino has backed his former team-mate Giampaolo Pazzini to go to the World Cup this summer after the forward netted two goals against Roma on Sunday.
Pazzini scored both of Sampdoria’s goals in their 2-1 victory over Roma on Sunday, taking his tally up to 17 in Serie A this season.
“I am happy for him. I believe that he deserves to go to the World Cup and I hope to find him in South Africa,” Gilardino told Domenica Sportiva.
“Pazzini chose to leave Florence because he needed to play, just like I did with Milan. And now his decision has paid off,” the former Milan striker concluded.
Italy boss Marcello Lippi is said to have already decided to take Gilardino and Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta to the World Cup.
Pazzini is competing with the likes of Antonio Di Natale, Marco Borriello, Giuseppe Rossi and Luca Toni for one of the remaining three places up front.
