Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Marzio has suggested that FC Toronto are readying January move for Genoa striker Alberto Gilardino.
The MLS side are prepared to offer around €6 million for the player’s services, while preparing a three-year contract for the forward worth a total of €7 million.
Gilardino’s agent Beppe Bozzo has held initial talks with Toronto FC chiefs, which is enough to suggest his client is interested in moving to the MLS.
The 31-year-old remains one of Serie A’s most prolific strikers having scored over 160 goals in Italy’s top flight playing for Piacenza, Hellas Verona, Parma, Milan, Fiorentina, Genoa and Bologna.
Following some impressive displays while on loan at Bologna last term, Gilardino has played his way into the plans of Italy boss Cesare Prandelli, and he is now a serious contender for a place in the Azzurri’s World Cup squad.
The experienced striker has made nine league appearances for Genoa this term, scoring a total of three goals in the process.
