Spanish La Liga side Mallorca have produced quite a coup by signing forward Giovani Dos Santos from Tottenham for an undisclosed fee.
The Mexico international penned a four-year deal with los Bermellones, thus ending a disappointing spell with Spurs.
Dos Santos completed the move on transfer deadline day, just six months before his Tottenham deal was due to expire.
Mallorca sporting director Lorenzo Serra Ferrer explained that the club only purchased a half of the player’s contract.
“Mallorca purchased 50 percent of Gio’s overall rights,” Serra Ferrer told reporters at a press conference.
The former Barcelona coach was, nonetheless, delighted with club’s latest capture.
“I tried to bring him two years ago along with his brother. I’m very happy with my staff for pulling this off.”
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Barcelona and was regarded one of the world’s most talented footballers when he opted to join Tottenham in the summer of 2008.
However, the player’s career never kicked-off at White Hart Lane, with the Mexican amassing just 17 Premier League appearances during the four years with Spurs.
