Olivier Giroud has extended his contract with Chelsea for further 12 months, and he’s now set to stay at Stamford Bridge until the end of June 2020.
The French striker, who will turn 33 this month, has already hinted at where he might be plying his trade after that. ESPN claim he has been following closely the players who left Europe to play in the MLS in the latter stages of their careers, and they also relayed his statement to French television RMC Sport that moving to America would be an interesting experience for his family.
He wouldn’t, however, set a date on a potential move across the Atlantic, and he insists that he remains open to other options as well upon the expiry of his current contract, including another extension with Chelsea.
Happy with his contribution, the Europa League winners decided to activate their option of an extension this summer – a tool which has now been used up. Come next summer, it will likely be Giroud’s decision what happens next.
