Given not interested in Spurs move

Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given insists he is not interested in a January move to Tottenham.

Reports suggest Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is considering making a move for Given in January, due to several poor performances by Heurelho Gomes so far this season.

“They have spent money on a goalkeeper already so I don’t think they’re going to spend any more,” Given told The Sun.

“I’m sure that when Heurelho Gomes gets his confidence back he’ll be a very, very good goalkeeper again.

“I wouldn’t want to leave Newcastle anyway, I’m very happy where I’m at.”

He added: “We are not getting the goals at the moment but I think there are goals in the team. We’ve improved hugely in the defence and that bodes well.

“You look at the last two games, both away, and we’ve kept clean sheets and that’s the kind of base you need to build on.

“I’ve not had too much to do and that’s a credit to the defence.”
