(GSM) – Manchester City Shay Given has suffered a dislocated shoulder in the goalless Premier League draw at Arsenal. According to the club, the goalkeeper will be out for the remainder of the current season.
The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper was carried off on a stretcher at the Emirates. Meanwhile Faroe Islands goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen stepped in as the substitute and the ‘keeper could now face Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham.
Regular number two Stuart Taylor is currently recovering from knee surgery. City manager Roberto Mancini rued Given’s injury and praised the debuting keeper.
“Shay’s injury will be a problem. It’s not good for us because Shay is a fantastic goalkeeper. He is important to us, but in football you can always get injured,” Mancini told the club’s official website.
“Shay is in hospital, but we have 10 days and must play three big games. Gunnar came on and did very well. Stuart is still some way off and everyone must be 200% now.”
