Glen Johnson linked with West Ham return

Premier League high flyers West Ham are ready to offer Upton Park graduate Glen Johnson an escape route from Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.

The highly rated defender is almost certain to leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the season.

And while clubs from Italy have taken a keen interest in the experienced full-back, West Ham have also joined the race.

The Hammers will need a quality right-back once Carl Jenkinson returns to Arsenal and they see Johnson as a perfect addition to the squad.

It was at Upton Park that the 30-year-old started his professional career, before going on to represent Chelsea, Portsmouth and Liverpool.

Johnson spent last five and a half years at Anfield, making a total of 151 Premier League appearances, but he is no longer considered an important member of the squad.

He has also lost his place in the national team and a move back to West Ham could be a good opportunity for Johnson to kick-start his career.
