Werder Bremen’s Serge Gnabry has activated an exit clause in his contract, with the winger set to leave the club after a single season.
Former Arsenal man Gnabry scored 11 Bundesliga goals in a breakthrough campaign, prompting RB Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl to confirm his interest in signing the 21-year-old.
Gnabry previously welcomed speculation linking him with a move to Bayern Munich, but Hoffenheim are in pole position to seal his signature, with reports in Germany suggesting he will cost €8million.
“Werder Bremen is really a special club and has exceeded my expectations” Gnabry wrote on social media.
“I had a chance to prove myself here, and I am very grateful to all of you. I will not forget the support of the whole city, the fans and my team-mates.”

Gnabry made his Germany debut in November 2016 in a World Cup qualifier against San Marino, scoring a hat-trick in a crushing 8-0 victory, and Werder coach Alexander Nouri is sad to see the winger leave the club.
“Of course, it is a pity,” Nouri said. “Serge with us was an absolute performer, who has made an exceptionally positive development and has helped the team enormously with strong performances.
