“I would like Heurelho to stay with us next season. I would like the good keepers to stay with us in the future”.
Those are the words of Watford manager Javi Gracia, who has confirmed that he’d like to see veteran goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes remain at Vicarage Road next season. The 38 year old is expected to retire from the game once this current campaign comes to an end, and yet Gracia still seems insistent on keeping him around.
The former Brazil international has been with Watford since back in 2014, although you could argue he’s best known for his days with PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham Hotspur. Even with that, though, Gomes has proven to be a commodity for the high flying Watford as they continue to go in search of a place in the Europa League.
If he retires, he’ll almost certainly be offered the chance to continue to be involved with the club in some kind of mentor role.
