Gomez flattered by Inter Milan rumours; Maicon rules out leaving Man City

Calcio Catania forward Alejandro Gomez has admitted that he is flattered by reports linking him with a summer move to F.C. Internazionale Milano, Sky Sports understands.

The former Argentina Under-20 international is believed to be on the Nerazzurri’s transfer shortlist, with the Italian giants keen on renovating their squad this summer after a disappointing 2012-13 season.

Gomez, who was also subject to interest from Internazionale last summer, has had a very good season at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

The 25-year-old is happy at Catania, but would find it rather difficult to reject a move to a big club.

The Argentine ace has bagged seven goals and seven assists in 31 Serie A appearances for the Rossazzurri this season, having led Catania to a 13-9-11 league record thus far.

“They are following me since last year. Now I read that they would be considering me again and this gives me pride, but it’s too soon,” Gomez told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Catania has become my second home. I’ve practically always played as regular and I’m absolutely thankful.

“Each player dreams to grow and to become important. I’d like to do a quality jump.”

Internazionale are currently fifth in the Serie A table, six points adrift of the final UEFA Champions League qualifying place, which is currently occupied by bitter rivals AC Milan, and one point clear of AS Roma for the final UEFA Europa League place.

Maicon rules out leaving Man City

Manchester City right-back Maicon Douglas Sisenando has ruled out leaving the club in the summer amid reports linking the former Internazionale star with a move to Brasileiro side Atlético Mineiro, according to Sky Sports.

“I can completely guarantee you that I’ll not leave,” Maicon told Lancenet. “I’m calm and I don’t care about what they wrote about me.

“My only objective is to help the team and don’t have any more injuries, as my goal is to return to the national team.”

Maicon, 31, has made just 11 English Premier League appearances for Manchester City so far this term, with Roberto Mancini prefering in-form Argentina international Pablo Zabaleta for much of the current campaign, and rightfully so.

The 31-year-old did not enjoy a great debut season for City due to a series of injuries, but he has regained his fitness and is eager to help the club.

City have five league matches, against the likes of West Ham United, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion, Reading and Norwich City, and the English FA Cup final against Wigan Athletic remaining on their 2012-13 schedule.
