Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez will miss Germany’s Euro 2012 qualifiers with Austria and Poland after suffering a thigh injury.
According to the DFB (German Football Association) Gomez felt the pain in his thigh during the 3-0 victory over Kaiserslautern on Saturday.
He called Germany boss Joachim Loew to say that he would be unable to link up with the national team as they look to seal qualification for Euro 2012 with a victory over neighbours Austria.
Loew acted quickly, calling up Stuttgart striker Cacau, who has also been in good form this season, grabbing a couple of goals in his side’s opening fixtures this season.
Cacau has played 17 times for Germany, scoring four goals.
Gomez had started the new season at a canter, scoring six goals in his seven appearances for the Bavarian side this campaign, including a hat-trick against Kaiserslautern.
