Bayern Munich star Mario Gomez has warned his team-mates not to become complacent in the final months of the Bundesliga title race.
Jupp Heynckes’ side sit top with 42 points from 17 games, holding a nine-point lead over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, with reigning champions Borussia Dortmund a further three behind.
The Germany striker has not forgotten about last season’s collapse, and says anything can still happen even though he feels his side have made significant progress since last term.
“We are much more stable than we were last season. The first half of the season has already shown that. We didn’t have any poor spells,” Gomez told the club’s website.
“The team also have a completely different attitude toward our title ambition. However, we are not champions just yet.
“We have to prove over the coming months that we are the undisputed number one in Germany.
“Borussia Dortmund will not be able to conserve energy now they’re still in the Champions League. We have to be careful, though. They are a good team with a great coach.”
Bayern resume Bundesliga action at home against Greuther Fuerth on January 19.
