Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons has admitted that he is proud to have been linked with Serie A giants Napoli.
The Azzurri are thought to have made the Frenchman one of their top targets in the January window, but they have yet to make their interest concrete.
And while the player admits he is flattered by the transfer talk, he has revealed a January exit is highly unlikely.
“Napoli? I have been listening about their interest for a while. I know they are following me. It is always flattering to know that big European clubs are following you,” Gonalons told Le Parisien.
“It’s impossible for me to leave this winter. The reason I stayed this summer was to finish the entire season. Then in June, we’ll see.”
Maxime Gonalons has come through the youth ranks at Stade Gerland and went on to make a total of 120 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring 5 goals in the process.
He has developed into one of league’s top holding midfielders and has seen a host of high-profile clubs cast admiring glances his way.
Olympique Lyon have been showing some improvement following the poor start to the season, but they are no less than 15/2 to defeat leaders PSG at Parc des Princes on Sunday.
