Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons has admitted that he rejected an opportunity to join Napoli during the summer transfer window.
The Azzurri attempted to lure the highly rated midfielder to Stadio San Paolo this summer, but ultimately failed in their quest.
Nevertheless, even with Napoli enjoying a strong start to the new season, Gonalons is adamant he has not regretted rejecting the Serie A giants.
“We’ll see at the end of the season if it was the right choice, if I am in the right car,” the midfielder explained to Le Parisien.
“In any case, I will not regret. It is always gratifying to be followed by a club like Napoli.”
Maxime Goalons remains one of the hottest commodities in European football and everything suggests les Gones won’t be able to hold on to him for much longer.
The 24-year-old has so far amassed 114 Ligue 1 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals in the process.
Given that Lyon picked up just 10 points from first 7 league games, they face a must-win match at home against Lille, with les Gones no less than 17/10 to claim maximum points and revive their top 4 bid.
