hot-transfer-newsGonalons sign new Lyon deal

Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons has signed a new contract at Stade Gerland, the French club announced on their official website.

The 25-year-old had a contract until June 2016 with les Gones, but he decided to extend the deal for another two years.

Gonalons was on the verge of joining Napoli on several occasions during the past year, but it appears he has opted to remain at Stade Gerland for the foreseeable future.

The France international has spent his entire career up to date with les Gones, making 159 league appearances and scoring 6 goals.

Gonalons represented France on six occasions, but he last featured for the national team in a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Spain more than two years ago.

The holding midfielder started 12 league matches for Lyon this term, missing one game through suspension.

Cvitanich confirms summer exit

Nice striker Dario Cvitanich has revealed that he will be leaving the club at the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old forward will be out of contract in the summer and he has confirmed he will not be signing a new deal at Allianz Riviera.

“I am profiting from my last months at OGC Nice, a very important club in my heart,” the Argentine said at a press conference.

“The fact that I haven’t had a contract extension offer up until now, means that it won’t be coming in the future. This situation does not worry me, even if it is in my head now.”

Dario Cvitanich has enjoyed two very successful years at Nice, bagging 29 goals in 64 Ligue 1 appearances for les Aiglons.

The former Ajax striker has been linked with Marseille and AS Roma in the past and no doubt he will have plenty of offers to choose from next summer.

Benfica close on Joaquin Correa

Portuguese daily newspaper O Jogo understands that Benfica are on the verge of signing Argentine midfielder Joaquin Correa from Estudiantes.

The Eagles have been keeping close tabs on the talented footballer for quite a while and they have now stepped up their interest.

According to O Jogo, the two clubs are on the verge of reaching an agreement that will see the 20-year-old move to Estadio da Luz in January.

Joaquin Correa has come through the youth ranks at Estudiantes and he has been showing a great deal of potential of late.

The attacking midfielder amassed a total of 50 league appearances for the Argentine giants, scoring 3 goals in the process.

Correa seems to have done enough to catch the eye of Benfica and it appears he will be moving to Europe as early as January.
