Everton manager Frank Lampard has revealed that no deal that would see Anthony Gordon leave Everton this summer was ever close, amid reports of strong interest in the young winger from Chelsea.
The club where Lampard spent most of his playing days and is still considered a legend were said to be making an offer after offer in the hope of landing Gordon, but despite their best efforts and the reported desire of the player himself for the move to happen, the Toffees dug their heals in and refused to sell.
“It never got close to happening,” Lampard said while talking to the press ahead of the Merseyside Derby scheduled for Saturday.
“That is great because it has shown where we are coming from and it shows where Anthony is mentally as a player and we move on. We are happy.”
The 21-year-old attacker is a product of the Everton academy and has so far made 65 senior appearances for the club, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. His contract at Goodison Park has just under three years left to run.
