Esteban Granero is confident Queens Park Rangers will soon forget their slow start to the English Premier League season.
Mark Hughes’ men have lost two of their opening three games, conceding nine goals in the process and earning just a solitary point from their draw with Norwich.
But Granero, who joined the club from Real Madrid on a four-year deal, believes the players just need time before they start to get it right on the field.
“Of course we have to learn about things, we have to improve many things but I think that this team will improve a lot when we spend more time together,” he said.
“So I think it is normal in the first three games to get only one point. It’s ok. But sure, this is not the way it is going to be.”
“This season is going to be great. I know, I can feel it, I can see it in my team-mates’ faces. They have quality and it is going to be a great season for Queens Park Rangers. At first it is normal. We don’t know each other, there are a lot of new players.”
On Saturday QPR play host to west London rivals Chelsea, and Granero knows the importance of producing a strong performance in the derby clash.
“Well, Chelsea is one of the great teams in England, they are also our neighbours,” Granero said.
“The Queens Park Rangers supporters are very excited about this game. They expect a good game and we will do it. We will try to achieve our first win. I’ve been told about Chelsea a lot, I also have friends in Chelsea, Spanish players … it is going to be my first game at Loftus Road and I’m very excited for the first game.”
“Of course the first win is always important … it’s a great game for our supporters too to play against our neighbours and it is in our stadium. So it is not only three points, it’s going to be more important.
“We are going to have to train well this week and we will see what happens. But I’m sure we are very focussed on the game.”
