Russian newspaper Izvestia is reporting that Spartak Moscow are considering a move on Borussia M’gladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Russian giants are in need of midfield reinforcements and they look ready to bid for the Switzerland international.
With former Basel coach Murat Yakin set to take over the reigns in Moscow, it is believed he will try and get reunited with Granit Xhaka.
The 21-year-old was followed by Europe’s top clubs when he left Basel for Borussia M’gladbach two years ago, but he has so far failed to prove his worth in the Bundesliga.
Xhaka hasn’t quite managed to establish himself as a first team regular for die Fohlen, although he did make a total of 50 league appearances for the club and scored one goal in the process.
He has, nonetheless, remained an important player for Switzerland, who are priced at 11/8 to win their opening game against Ecuador at the 2014 World Cup.
