(GSM) – Euro 2004 champions Greece were held to a disappointing draw in Friday’s qualifying match against Georgia.
After failing to impress at the World Cup this summer, Greece hoped to do better in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Georgia. But even under the helm of new manager Fernando Santos, the Hellenic side could not convince.
Just three minutes had passed at Georgios Karaiskaki stadium in Piraeus when Karlsruher SC striker Alexander Iashvili put the Georgians in the lead.
The Greeks did limit the damage as Nikolaos Spiropoulos netted an equaliser in the 72nd minute.
Greece, who now share Group F’s third place with Georgia, play their next match in and against Croatia next Tuesday.
