Grella hints at Italy return

Blackburn midfielder Vincenzo Grella has revealed that he plans to quit Rovers at the end of the season and return to Italy.

The Australian international joined Blackburn in a €4 million deal from Torino in August 2008, but failed to fulfill his potential at Ewood Park.

Plagued by numerous injuries, Grella amassed just 38 Premier League appearances in four seasons and he is now expected to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

The 32-year-old has been linked with a return to Italian Serie A in the summer and he has now moved to confirm the transfer speculation.

“I will be release in June, next season I will return to play in Italy,” Grella said in an exclusive interview with Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

Grella spent a total of 11 seasons in Italy before joining Blackburn, having played for Empoli, Ternana, Parma and Torino.

The veteran midfielder has only made one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season, while he started the Carling Cup game against Leyton Orient.
