Gremio have made official contact with Juventus over the possibility of signing Douglas Costa this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian forward is set to return to the Serie A side from his loan spell at Bayern Munich at the end of the season, but there doesn’t appear to be a future for him in Turin.
Costa is a Gremio product, having gone through their youth ranks and earned first-team promotion there in 2008. He moved to Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2010 and spent five and a half years there, before starting his back-and-forth trips between Bayern and Juventus. At the age of 30, he’s about to enter the final year of his contract with the Old Lady, and the club appear keen to offload him from their wage bill.
The agreement between Gremio and Juventus is apparently imminent at this stage, which means the 31-cap Brazil international will return to the place where his journey started, accepting a significant drop in wages to make it happen.
