Griezmann ‘didn’t stay for money’

In a recent interview with AS, Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann revealed that he didn’t say with the club purely because of the money. For the few months prior to his decision being made, the French forward was heavily linked with a switch to Spanish champions Barcelona. A lot of fans were expecting him to leave in order to further his chances of lifting the Champions League trophy, but in the end, he very dramatically announced that he’d be staying with Atletico.

Griezmann claimed that he was basing his decision on where they want him the most and where he’d receive the most love. A lot of people will continue to throw criticism his way, believing that he’s lying about his reasoning, but it remains open to interpretation.

Atletico Madrid will begin their own quest for Champions League glory tomorrow night when they face Monaco, before a trip to play Getafe at the weekend in La Liga.
