Real Betis have been doing a lot of business this past summer, most notably with the signing of Nabil Fekir and the departure of recently-bought Giovani Lo Celso, but now that the season is in full swing, the club is trying to tie up all the players they want to have a long-term future at the club.
According to Estadio Deportivo, one of those players could be Andres Guardado. They are reporting that Guardado is on the verge of signing a new deal at Estadio Benito Villamarin. The Mexican might be 32 years old, but the club want to prolong his current contract, set to expire on 30 June 2020. Also, Betis do not want to run the risk of losing the experienced midfielder to a free transfer.
Recently, Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire were reported to be interested in Guardado, as their head coach Veljko Paunovic – former Atletico Madrid player – knows the Spanish market quite well. However, Guardado now looks set to extend his stay at Betis.
