Speaking to the press, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the club will do anything they can to keep Brahim Diaz past the next summer when his current deal is set to expire.
The young winger scored twice and produced a Man of the Match display in City’s Carabao Cup win over Fulham, which brought his contract situation to the spotlight. Unhappy about the lack of first-team opportunities, Diaz has so far been reluctant to put pen to paper on a new deal, and Real Madrid have apparently taken note of that.
Guardiola said it’s never easy for young players to break into the first team at top clubs, but Diaz has impressed with his commitment in training, showed his quality in competitive games and earned the respect of everyone at the club. It would, according to the Catalan coach, ultimately depend on the player himself and his agent. The good will of Manchester City is there, but the final decision will not be theirs.
