Sport Bild has revealed that Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola was the main reason why the Bavarians did not complete the signing of Paul-Georges Ntep from Rennes.
The Spaniard was in the market for an attacking midfielder that could play on either wing, and he eventually signed Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk for €30 million.
However, it has now been revealed that Bayern Munich chiefs had earlier agreed a €12 million deal for Paul-Georges Ntep, only for the coach to pull the plug on the deal.
Having shown a great deal of potential in French Ligue 1, the 22-year-old was seen as a much cheaper alternative to Douglas Costa, but it was Pep Guardiola who eventually had the last say.
The Spaniard plans to recruit another winger before the summer transfer window comes to an end, but luring primary target Angel Di Maria to Allianz Arena is proving a very difficult task.
