As Sky Sports report, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made it perfectly clear his club will not be signing Andres Iniesta.
Guardiola managed Barcelona for four years, and therefore worked with Iniesta his whole stint at Camp Nou, from 2008 to 2012. Guardiola can certainly be accounted one of the most important people in the development of Iniesta into one of the finest midfielders in the world. Upon his appointment, Guardiola immediately made it known that players like Ronaldinho, Deco, Samuel Eto’o, Giovani dos Santos and Edmilson were not part of his long-term plans, and decided to build his team around the qualities of Iniesta, Xavi, and Lionel Messi. That team won the Champions League twice, though Iniesta himself also won it once before and once after, in 2006 and 2015.
Since his decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the season was made public, reports had emerged of a possible reunion between player and manager at Manchester City, but that doesn’t seem likely now. Guardiola believes Manchester City cannot offer Iniesta what he has at Barcelona, and if the midfielder who turns 34 in May still wanted to compete at such a high level, he’d be staying with the Catalan giants.
